Learn how to transform your home, school or community spaces into sustainable ecological oasis that harvest and conserve water and energy, produce food and medicine, regenerate biodiversity, and bring beauty and joy to life. Experience interactive lecture style presentations and hands-on design practice.
COURSE DETAILS:
This course provides the theory, philosophies, principles and techniques of permaculture design, the whole-system design approach for creating sustainable human settlements and institutions.
The focus of the course will be on small scale permaculture systems for homes and, school campuses and communities.
Topics explored in this course will include: permaculture design ethics & principles, permaculture design elements & process, nature's patterns and systems, water harvesting & conservation systems, compost & soil fertility systems, plants & food production systems, energy & shelter systems, and community & social systems.
During the course, participants will create a Basic Conceptual Permaculture Design for a possible permaculture garden on the Golden West College campus, or for their own home or community.
Upon completion of the course design, participants will receive an "Introduction to Permaculture Design Certification".
DURATION:
4 sessions of 4 hours each (16 hours total)
INSTRUCTOR(S):
Lucian Toma - sustainability and permaculture designer, educator and consultant with over 7 years of professional experience in the design, development and implementation of regenerative programs in academic, government, business and nonprofit environments. Lucian was the Public Programs and Ecological Design Lead at The Ecology Center where he led 2 Permaculture Certification Courses in 2015 and 2016. In the past 3 years he has designed over 40 private and public permaculture spaces, installed over 20 and taught over 200 permaculture and sustainability related workshops.
